The fourth capacity auction organized by EPEX in 2020 for the year 2021 took place on Thursday, September 24. After the jump of the previous auction, the price of the capacity fell back to €29,541/MW, bringing the average auction price for 2021 to €28,915/MW.
As a reminder, the average reference price of the capacity auctions was 19,458 €/MW for the year 2020.
The decrease in nuclear production announced by EDF following maintenance problems seems to have strained the market for capacity guarantees. EDF is maintaining a production target of between 330 and 360 TWh in 2021-2022 against about 385 TWh in recent years, but its CEO has recently expressed doubts about the ability to meet this target.
